Jodie shares her day in life as a Neonatal Clinical Educator on SCBU at North Tees Hospital.
I am a Neonatal Clinical Educator on SCBU at North Tees Hospital.
I have been in the post since June 2023.
A typical day for me will include an element of admin work, for example, writing simulations for one of our bi-monthly simulations, answering emails, organising training for colleagues, updating training registers and ensuring compliance with national and local guidelines.
Liaising with colleagues about training needs, and upcoming opportunities, assisting with re-validation and appraisals.
Putting together resources for mandatory training, and delivering that training at one of the monthly mandatory training days.
I may spend a day teaching NLS as an instructor (I have 1 further IC to complete).
I attend training for my role too, and some of those courses have included:
- Train the Trainer for BLS
- Difficult Conversations
- Appraisal Training
- Clinical Supervision
- Intro to SIMS
- Resilience training
I have also completed FINE training and Ei SMART, which is great for the implementation of Fi Care.
I am an NHS Ambassador and occasionally attend Schools, Colleges and Universities to promote and demonstrate careers within the NHS.
Since being in post I have developed a new starter pack for members of staff joining SCBU. A preceptorship pack to align with the trust's current offering, but specific to SCBU. Involved with writing SOPs and sharing those in directorate meetings.
I have developed bite-sized teaching to update and revisit knowledge already held by staff and developed training manuals to assist in the delivery of medications to babies in the Postnatal Ward to avoid separation of Mum and Baby.
